Even as he questions her story, his attraction and protectiveness mounts. What Declan does not realize is he is the one being protected, not Suzanne.
Suzanne is a Memitim,
an earthbound angel whose purpose is to protect her Primori, Declan. What she is NOT supposed to do is lust after
him. When circumstances arise that put
Declan’s life at risk, Suzanne hatches a plan to keep him close at all times. She will claim to need a bodyguard due to a
stalker that has been following her and have Declan protect her.
When Declan arrives, he
is all business but she does not want that.
Suzanne wants to experience life on her own terms. That is not something she has ever been given
the chance to do. But, she wants to and she
will begin with Declan.
Will Declan, who has only
lived in the present, want to carve out a future with Suzanne? Will Suzanne, who already has her future set
in stone, choose to live day by day with Declan forsaking the Memitim laws?
This is the 6th
Demonica underworld series novel and is also book 2 in the Crossover series Masters and
Mercenaries by Lexi Burke. It is told in
dual POV. The story and the plot pulled me
in a kept my undivided attention. The
weaving between the two worlds is seamless and expertly done.
In my opinion, the heat
and passion Larissa Ione normally brings, is lacking in this installment. I did not feel the angst nor see a true hurdle
for this couple to overcome to be together.
I feel as though Suzanne and Declan’s development as a couple was not completely
fleshed out.
The Demonica world is
one of my favourites. I love visiting it
and being immersed in it. This author
has a way of writing that always grabs and holds my attention. This book is no different. The writing was excellent and I cannot wait to
be enthralled in the next installment!

can’t I just go back up to Dallas with you?”

uncle sighed. They’d been over this before, but Sadie couldn’t let it go.
“Because
Jonathan is still missing. Captain Jackson said he’d continue to look after you
until he’s caught.”
Sadie
shook her head. “But if I came home, you could keep me safe.”
Sean
looked down at her with love in his eyes. His voice gentled. “I could, you’re
right. But I think we both know that you wouldn’t like my kind of protection.
Or Ian’s. Or anyone else we could find.”
She
knew what he meant without him coming right out and saying it. Sean was
overprotective. As was Ian, and probably most of the other men who worked for
McKay-Taggart. She could handle their overprotectiveness and bossiness…but only
to a point. If she had to endure it twenty-four seven, it could damage their
relationship. And that was the last thing she wanted.
“I
can go stay with Milena’s parents again,” Sadie volunteered almost desperately.
Maybe she’d even make it in time for Milena’s surprise engagement party. She
might not want to become one of McKay-Taggart’s overprotected clients, but she
wasn’t sure she wanted to be in close quarters with Chase Jackson anymore
either.
From
the second she’d laid eyes on the man, she’d wanted him. It was as if her body
