Delilah Sage was my comfort within all the pain.
Offering open arms when I needed an escape.
The only one trusted to be there for me.
But our dreams were doomed from the start.
And I left her clinging to false hope.
Regret has plagued me for years.
The memories of Delilah refuse to fade.
Each second of every day, I want to claim her as mine.
But I won’t ruin her life.
And she’s better off without me.
When a job lands me in town, I plan to keep my distance.
My scars are mine alone.
Dredging up the past will only cause deeper damage.
But Delilah has always been my weakness.
And resisting her isn’t an option.
After all, there’s far too much for us to miss.

This is the first book I read by Harloe Rae and I must say I was pleasantly surprised.
Zeke is a romantic but tortured soul. He has a dark past and as result, he has self esteem issues.
Five years ago he left the only light and love of his life, Delilah, to escape from his tormentor and make a better life but promised to return for her.
Things however did not go as planned and Zee did not return-until now.
Will Zeke be able to shed the darkness of his past for good and rekindle the once in a lifetime love he once had?
This is the second book in the series, which I believe can be read as a standalone, and is told in dual point of view.
The pace of this story in the beginning was a little slow for me, not much happened. I had put down my kindle several times due to this issue. However, I persisted and I am so very glad I did. The pace eventually quickened and the angst and the passion ratcheted up several degrees and made for a wonderfully satisfying second half and conclusion to this novel.
I absolutely adored Zeke! He is solemn, brooding and absolutely romantic!
Delilah was also a wonderful character. Being a little gun-shy over rekindling her flame with Zeke, she was still understanding and compassionate to his plight.
I believe that seeing Zeke’s and Delilah’s past would have enriched the story so much more than hearing it in past tense. It also would have given more depth to the characters.
We know he has been abused but without really knowing the exact trials he went through, it is sometimes hard to understand the utter darkness and self-hatred he sometime feels.
As well, we know from the beginning that he and Delilah are soulmates but we never get to experience the strength that Delilah provides nor the reasons why Delilah becomes his everything.
This aside, it was definitely worth the read.
I received an ARC of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
TRAILER
Why are you being like this?” I ask softly.
His voice is even more flat when he says, “Not sure what you mean. This is me.”
“You’re acting so detached and strange. This isn’t like you.”
“Well, you don’t know me anymore.”
That response brings fury and betrayal roaring to the surface again. “And whose fault is that, Zeke?” I grab a nearby mug with the intention of throwing it at his head. He’s giving me worse mood swings than Aunt Flo.
“We both know the answer. Let’s not play guessing games.”
“You’re ridiculous. I don’t understand you at all,” I say.
“A lot happens in five years. You’re not the only one who’s changed.” He gestures around the store.
“What is that supposed to mean? Are you upset about my career choice?”
“Nah, that isn’t it.”
“What then? Let’s stop dancing around. You came here for a reason,” I point out.
A flush races up his neck, painting the stubbled skin an angry red. “All of this is proof you never needed me. Not like I fucking depend on you.”
