TOUR & REVIEW: The Initiation

This is the first book I read by Nikki Sloan and I want more.  I’d recommend it to those that like their books with a little spice and naughtiness.  A book that will keep you on your toes wondering what will happen next.

The Initiation
Author: Nikki Sloane
Release Date: May 28, 2019
Genre: Erotic Romance

No one knows how new members are selected to the board of Hale Banking and Holding. But there are rumors of a sordid rite of initiation.

Whispers how one woman and nine men disappear into a boardroom.

This time, that woman will be me.

The Hale family owns everything—the eighth largest bank in the world, everyone in our town, even the mortgage on my parents’ mansion. And now Royce Hale wants to own me.

He is charming. Seductive. Ruthless. But above all, he’s the prince of lies. My body may tighten with white-hot desire under his penetrating gaze, but I refuse to enjoy it.

I’ll make a deal with the devil to save my family and sell myself to the Hales. But Royce will never own my heart.

I have been initiated into the first book of the Filthy Rich Americans trilogy and I am blown away. This was a deliciously decadent bite-sized read and I enjoyed every deliciously naughty second of it.

This first book was enthralling. I burned through the pages consumed with the need to know more. To become more entwined in the story as well as the lies and deceits that were being perpetuated. GAH! The twists and turns were so sharp they kept me at the edge of my seat.

Marist has always been in the shadow of her sister. She has learned not to care what people think after Royce, decreed she was a nobody and everyone followed suit.

Years later, her dark and morbid fascination for Royce flares to life. After a clandestine and heated meeting he asks her to wait for him.

A year passes and Marist is about to be bombarded with a whole new life. A life guaranteed to bring out lust, lies deceit and betrayal. What is not guaranteed nor promised is a chance a love and trust.

Get ready for your newest addiction. The Initiation is about to take root and titillate all of your senses.

The cliff-hanger ending has left me stunned and so very eager for more.

I received an ARC of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own

Every pair of eyes in the restaurant was on us as we were led to our table for dinner.

Probably not every pair, but God, it felt that way.

“Is it just me,” I asked over the top of my menu, “or is everyone staring at us?”

Royce was indifferent. “They’re staring at you.”

His statement rattled me. “Why?”

“Because you’re here with me.” His gaze never lifted to mine, like he couldn’t be bothered. “Or more likely, because you’re fucking gorgeous. Who knows?”

Breath halted in my lungs. “You can’t just say shit like that.”

The leather-bound menu holder dropped onto the table with a thud, and I was met with the full power of Royce’s irritated stare. “That you’re beautiful? You are. Get over it.”

Dismay twisted my lips into a frown. “Please, don’t. I don’t need bullshit lines from
someone like you.”

“It’s not a line, and . . . someone like me?” More annoyance darted through his eyes, but intrigue too. “What’s that supposed to mean?”

How was I going to put it into words? “You’re a ‘haver.’ I mean, you could have any
woman in this room if you wanted, and probably some of the guys too. You’re young, hot, and filthy rich.”

His irritation vanished. It was replaced with an arrogant expression that said none of this was news to him. I pushed forward, gathering steam.

“Me?” I said. “I’m a ‘have-not.’ I’m sure you didn’t intend for it to happen, but when you said I was a nobody, you made it true. No one will touch me.”

“I touched you.”

He was immune to my scorching glare. “You wanted to know why I was still a virgin last year. Well, there’s your answer. You’re the reason, Royce. Nobody would be caught dead with me.”

He considered the accusation I’d lobbed at him. “You’re wrong,” he said finally. “I was
aware what was going to happen. It’s exactly why I said it.”

My head turned into a void. “What?”

He leaned over the table to ensure he had my full attention. “I saw you at the bar with
your sister that night. You were swaying to the music, all happy, and pretty, and it pissed me off.

My father had already laid out plans for me. I was supposed to be with Emily, but that wasn’t what I wanted.”

I clenched the menu in my hands. I sensed where he was going, but I couldn’t wrap my head around it. My heart chugged along, thumping loudly in my ears.

“So, yeah. I knew you were behind me when I called you a nobody. I did it on purpose,
because I couldn’t stand you with anyone else. I wanted you for myself.”

“Oh, my God.” My body flushed hot, although I didn’t know if it was with anger or
excitement, or a deadly combination of the two.

TOUR & REVIEW: Million Dollar Devil

Do any of you have a favorite hero?  I know we’ve all had many a book boyfriend but I wanted to bring to your attention my newest book boyfriend, Jimmy.  He is one of my favorites in Million Dollar Devil by Katy Evans! Check out my review and ADD this baby to your TBR if it suits!

Million Dollar Devil
Author: Katy Evans
Release Date: May 28, 2019

Million Dollar Devil, a devilish contemporary romance where big-city sophistication meets carnal hunger from New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Katy Evans.

Heir apparent to her father’s company, Lizzy Banks needs a man. The perfect man. But when the rich “fundbabies” she usually rubs shoulders with prove impossible to hire, she takes a chance on a raw beast of a man salvaged from the wreckage of a bar brawl.

James Rowan earns a modest income as a YouTube daredevil, but he can’t refuse Lizzy’s million dollar deal. As she polishes his rough edges, creating a sophisticated gentleman fit for the highest circles of society, not only does she bring out the perfect man—it’s like she’s making the man of her dreams. How can she resist?

Though Lizzy loves seeing James in his clothes—and out of them—he isn’t the kind of man you bring home to Daddy. Her father’s disapproval and the pressure of the campaign have her eyeing the straight and narrow, but Lizzy’s finding it awfully hard to resist the devil on her shoulder…

A stand-alone, contemporary romance.

Million Dollar Devil is an amazing and satisfying read. It will have you swooning and falling in love from the very first pages.

Jimmy has left his mark on me. He’s gorgeously sexy and devilishly flirty. There’s no way you can resist him. Heart flutters. Swoon!. He may just be my favorite book boyfriend ever ️ and I am not sharing. He’s that good and he’s all mine!

Lizzy, for me, was a harder sell. Although I understood her motivation and reasons, she was a little too harsh. Especially at the end. After everything they had been through, she should have seen beyond and cared less about the superficial. I believe she needed the makeover more than Jimmy ever would.

The angst as well as the push and pull between Jimmy and Lizzy was unbearable. Literally. All I wanted was for them to get it on and work out all that angst. It seems like it took forever but when they did, it was explosive! It couldn’t be anything but!

The story was intriguing while the characters were real and true to who they are.

I received an ARC via NetGalley of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

He has a face that—until now—only existed in my dreams. Hard jaw, chiseled to perfection. Firm, plush, kissable lips. Sharp, pristine blue eyes that feel like lasers zeroing in on me. He catches my gaze, and the devil’s smile suddenly playing on his lips is worth a million bucks.

That’s exactly how much it cost me. What this guy cost me. I would’ve paid so much more.

It’s like he’s the only man in the room. Like he belongs here. Confidence oozes out of his every pore. Masculinity envelops him as perfectly as his custom black suit. He walks like he owns the place. My heart beats harder and harder for him.

I can’t believe I got him to agree to this.

Women are vying for his attention. His moves are smooth. Sophisticated. Elegant.

“An autograph?” a young woman asks shyly.

He takes the notepad and pen she extends and scribbles his name, his voice low and rough. “There you go.” Beneath all that polish is his raw masculine energy. The determination that brought him here.

“James . . .” I halt him before we go any farther. “Whatever happens . . .”

He looks at me. A thousand words lingering in his look. “I know.”

But does he? I’ve fallen in love with my own creation. I polished a diamond, and now it’s flawless. Perfect. But it’s not mine to keep.

He is not mine to keep.

This elite world he’s about to join isn’t one he was born into. These fans only know him because of me. His place at the top? That’s not where I found him.

REVIEW: Spitfire in Love

Good evening everyone!  Here is my review for Spitfire in Love by Isabelle Ronin.

From the International Phenomenon with over 200 Million Reads on Wattpad

There he was with his piercing blue eyes and Lucifer black hair.
He was leaning against the wall, a lollipop in his mouth, hot as hell and twice as dangerous.

Kara Hawthorne never backs down, especially when it comes to protecting her family.

She looked so soft, harmless, like a pretty kitten, but she was as safe as a ticking time bomb.
My sweet, sweet Spitfire.

Cameron St. Laurent isn't intimidated by the feisty woman at his doorstep. And when she asks him for the impossible, Cameron knows just how to sweeten the deal...

The two combustible personalities are faced with unavoidable off-the-charts chemistry. But when Cam's dark past shows up, he'll have to slay his demons and lay himself on the line to win Kara, body and soul.

I really enjoyed the electrifying battle of wills between Cam and Kara and the odd laugh out loud moments in this book. Both characters are independent and very abrupt. They don’t suffer fools gladly.

From the beginning, their tempers and the passion they have for each other flared. Misunderstandings abound and there is not much communication between the two besides the heated fights. Although this may be a deterrent for some, I believe the avoidance and the miscommunications are true to both characters. They do not trust easily and have a hard time showing emotion.

With that being said, however, I found the pace eventually lagged. Their miscommunications and sparring lasted at least three-quarters of the book.

The last quarter was left for the unravelling of secrets and the opening of their minds and hearts to each other. Although well executed, it felt rushed. The ending itself feels unfinished because of this.

There was so much build up when it came to his mom as well and it seems that thread just died. Almost like it was not part of the plot line when it seemed that she should’ve been. I was disappointed that there was no follow through on this and the fact that there was no epilogue.

I received an ARC of this book via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

REVIEW: Barefoot Pastures Book 2

LOVE strong, capable and downright broody cowboys?  Are you a horse lover?  I never thought I would fall for a cowboy or become a horse lover but the Barefoot Pastures series by Lili Mahoney has seriously pulled me in and made me fall in love with cowboy Jake as well as Rusty, a temperamental but fierce and loving horse.

If you also LOVE YA books, this series should be on your list!

Barefoot Pastures - Book Two
Barefoot Pastures #2
Author: Lili Mahoney
Genre: YA

Competing is Tory’s life, but when the unexpected happens and it keeps you off your horse, it means you refocus your energy. It also means that when the time is right, you have to battle hard to get back to the top.

I don’t think I’ve ever been so happy to re-immerse myself in a story. There is something about this series and the way the author writes that calls up my innocence and becomes food for the soul.

“Without you, Tory, I don’t see anything worth fighting for” -Jake

This is the second book in the Barefoot Pastures series. It can be read as a standalone but to feel the full extent of this series, I would advise to start with the first book.

I was pulled in by Tori’s character. She is strong and feisty. She fights what she believes in. I loved her character’s growth in this book. It was natural and seamless. I also loved that we get to see more interaction between her and Jake. I live for those moments.

If I wasn’t already in love with Jake from the first book, this book would have cemented it. We get to see all of his sides. From the strong and capable ranch owner to the soft and loving man he is with Tori. Jake is a strong, silent and powerful cowboy, sigh!

I’ve never had a thing for cowboys but Jake is everything!

The Barefoot Pastures series is a journey of self discovery and I’m so glad it’s taking me along for the ride.

I received an ARC of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Barefoot Pastures – Book One
Barefoot Pastures – Book Three

Lili lives in a rural area of Texas Hill Country, where her husband, three kiddos, dogs, and miscellaneous other critters create just enough chaos to keep her seated in reality and not lost in another novel. They also remind her daily that the very best stories come from memories and inspiration of being at home and with family.

She spends a large amount of time playing with her kids, drinking strawberry smoothies, and not cooking. Sadly, that means she’s usually the one doing all the dishes, which will put her into a foul mood since she dislikes anything domestic. Especially folding socks.

As a child, she had a tough time learning to read because of dyslexia and ADD. You’ll find that her books are fast-paced and full of characters with flaws. She usually writes what entertains her; that being strong women, loads of action, and interesting problems that might be a little out of the ordinary. She has grown to love reading and enjoys books that suck you in and don’t let you go and hopes her stories do the same for her readers.
