MY REVIEW ⭐⭐⭐

In this book, Carina rises through the ashes like a vengeful phoenix. Mateo is missing and she will do anything and everything to have him returned to her.

Will Carina get to Mateo in time? What devastation will be left in the wake of her awakening?

In this fourth installment into the Blood & Secrets series, we finally see Carina untamed leaving us know doubt as to why this series is so named. Secrets continue to unfold like a rose in bloom while the blood flows like fine wine. It is gruesome and can definitely have triggers.

With that being said, the excitement of finally seeing what they can do had me giddy with anticipation. I wanted to see their alter egos come out to play. We get a no holds barred look into what Carina can do. Let me tell you she completely freaks me out. I was a little disappointed however that Mateo’s dark side is still quite hidden.

The anticipation as always had me excited for what was to come next.

Again, however, I was left disappointed by the advancement of the book. Although I loved the fast-paced action I really don’t like that we only advance minimally in Mateo and Carina’s story.

The ending OMG! What? That came totally out of left field. I did not see that coming!

This installment is definitely not for the faint of heart. For those of you who like me, like it dark, Blood & Secrets 4 will definitely quench your thirst.

My Review

I love this series so far and make no qualms about it.  There’s heart pumping action and undeniable passion.

As much as I love this series, however, I must admit that this one missed the mark with me.  The action and passion were ever present, but there was not enough story to actually sink my teeth into.  The plot itself only advanced marginally leaving me feeling like the book was one long scene that lead to a cliff-hanger.  I also thought this story would have been about the last cliff-hanger which was HUGE, but it only glossed over it like it wasn’t as big of a deal as it was.  This book, in my opinion, added nothing extra to the overall plot in the series.

I did love getting a glimpse into who Carina and Mateo could’ve been had they not had such upbringings.  Their walls are slowly crumbling and I’m wondering who and what they are going to be when there is nothing left to hide behind.

I’m on tenterhooks to see how dark Mateo really is.  The previous books have been hinting at that darkness but I don’t think we have fully seen or experienced it yet.  I’m hoping in the next installment, that we will get a taste and that we will see where this series is ultimately leading...  We have two ultimate killing machines that would do anything for each other.  This could get interesting!

I am confident that the next installment will satiate my hunger for more in this exciting and captivating series.

My Review ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐


I.  Am.  Gobsmacked!  GAH!  I want to simultaneously kill and kiss this author for giving us another cliff-hanger to end all cliff-hangers!

This book is exciting, gritty and dangerously sexy.  It is the second book in a series that must be read in order.  It is told in dual POV and is extremely fast paced.  So fast in fact that the words flew by and now I’m looking at my kindle wondering WTH just happened.

We begin where the first instalment left off.  Carina’s secret is out of the bag and Mateo is still trying to pry the secrets his father keeps.

In my last review, I stated that I couldn’t wait to see Carina explode.  Although she did not explode, she did not disappoint.  She is badass and fearless.  There is still so much of her character that is unknown.  I, for one, am excited, to delve deeper into Carina’s character.

Mateo although still egocentric and an a-hole shows somewhat of a softer side in this instalment.  He is definitely a man I love to hate.

The passion between Mateo and Carina is simmering and so hot.

This book is an epic and sexy battle of the sexes.  Who will come up on top is anyone’s guess.

Blood & Secrets 2 is an action filled, heart-pumping helluva read!

I am completely aching for the next instalment.  (Dyiiiing!!)

MY REVIEW

Mateo Calvetti is the eldest son and next in line to be the head of the Calvetti crime family.  His father has planned an arranged marriage for Mateo to Carina Ricci since her birth.  The reasons his father have given him for this marriage are vague and Mateo does not understand why this connection to the Ricci family is so important.  Since his father desires it however, he must follow through. 

Mateo wants his wife trained.  He demands and expects Carina to prepared to stand by him as his Queen.  She must be untouchable and cold.  He will not abide a wife who embarrasses him and his family.  He will also not accept weakness from his wife.  With this, his family has been giving money to the Ricci family in hopes that they will train Carina and ensure she is prepared to rule by his side.  Mateo has no idea what he has gotten himself into.

Carina Ricci is living a very difficult life with her parents.  She is punished for her mother’s iniquities and mistakes.  She is also being brutally trained as well emotionally abused.  As a result of this training and abuse, she has a psychotic break and forgets who she is as a person.  She remembers everything else but her self-knowledge and feelings are skewed.  Carina has no idea yet what fate has in store for her.

This book took me by surprise.  So not what I thought it would be.  It is captivating and intriguing and the world the author created pulled me in.  It is a different take on the mafia world that I enjoyed.

It is told in dual POV, flowed well and ended too quickly.

Mateo is brutal, harsh, arrogant and blood thirsty.  He believes that Carina is weak and that she knows nothing. I love how she proves him wrong over and over again
with her backbone and snark.  Not to mention their sparring and arguments.  I couldn’t believe how much she sassed back.  Put them together and they definitely will be a force to be reckoned with!

I also very much liked Dom who has been Mateo’s friend since childhood.  He is down to earth.  He helps and befriends Carina as much as he can in this new life she is living.  Dom is friendly, kind and understanding even though this is an oxymoron compared to who and what he truly is.  Surprising that.

As for Carina, there is so much more to her than meets the eye.  She’d hiding behind a lot of anger, a match just waiting to be lit.  I cannot wait to see her explode!

This book ended on a bloody cliffhanger!  I cannot wait to see how it all ends.  I’m on tenterhooks to learn more of Carina.  That is going to be interesting.  I’m SO excited and I want more!

This is a series with only the basics covered in this first book.  It is just heating up.  It has so much intrigue that there’s no question about it, I am reading the next books.  I am enthralled.  I need the next installment STAT.
